Your Next Chapter: Accept, Discover, Empower
A free guide from ADE Coaching to help you take your next step with clarity and confidence.

Introduction
Welcome to Your Next Chapter: Accept. Discover. Empower.
I’m John Boerema, founder of ADE Coaching. If you’re holding this booklet, or reading it online, it means you’re already searching for something more — clarity, confidence, or simply the courage to take your next step. You may be at a crossroads in your personal life, navigating career challenges, or just feeling stuck in patterns you can’t quite break. Wherever you are, you’re not alone.
I created ADE Coaching because I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when someone has the right support, tools, and encouragement to unlock their potential. Coaching isn’t about fixing you — because you’re not broken. It’s about uncovering what’s already inside you and empowering you to live with greater purpose, confidence, and joy.
This guide is designed to give you a glimpse of that process. It’s not just something to read, but something to work through, because transformation starts with reflection and action. Over the next few pages, I’ll walk you through the same framework I use with my clients: Accept. Discover. Empower.
By the time you finish, you’ll have more clarity on where you stand, more confidence in where you’re going, and a renewed belief in what’s possible for you.
About John Boerema
At his core, John Boerema believes that growth begins with acceptance, discovery, and empowerment — the foundation of ADE Coaching. His mission is simple: to help people find clarity in their lives and confidence in their next steps.
A Journey into Coaching
After more than fifteen years as a leader in Healthcare Information Technology — managing large-scale projects, guiding cross-functional teams, and architecting enterprise solutions — John realized his passion wasn’t just in systems and data. It was in people. He saw how breakthroughs happen when individuals are supported, challenged, and given the tools to grow.
In 2024, John began formal life coach training and is actively working toward his certification. Today, he is already coaching clients, helping them uncover what’s holding them back and guiding them toward meaningful, sustainable change.
Rooted in Service
Beyond professional achievements, John’s life has always centered on serving others. He volunteers at his church and has traveled to Mexico to help build homes for families in need. He has also been a long-time mentor through the Big Brother program, giving young people encouragement, stability, and connection.
Life Outside of Coaching
When he’s not coaching or serving, you’ll find John out in nature. He loves camping, traveling the country in his RV, and connecting with the quiet strength of the outdoors. In Phoenix, his home base, John enjoys playing pickleball and spending time with his community.
He also has a playful side — he’s a fan of country music, learned country swing dancing, and now finds joy and connection on the dance floor as much as on the trail.
Why ADE Coaching?
John’s diverse background — from high-level IT leadership to hands-on community service — has shaped his belief that real transformation comes when we embrace three simple but powerful steps:
- Accept where you are today.
- Discover your strengths, values, and vision.
- Empower yourself to take bold action.
Through ADE Coaching, John combines his professional expertise, life experience, and passion for people into a coaching practice designed to help clients move from uncertainty to clarity, from hesitation to confidence, and from dreaming to doing.
Section 1: Accept Where You Are Today
Acceptance is the first and most powerful step toward change. Too often, we fight against our current reality, wishing we were further ahead, regretting past choices, or comparing ourselves to others. But here’s the truth: you can’t change what you refuse to face.
When you accept where you are today, you stop resisting and start owning your story. Acceptance isn’t about settling or lowering your standards. It’s about saying: “This is where I am. This is real. And from here, I can grow.”
To help you practice acceptance, here are 5 questions to gain clarity in life decisions. These questions will guide you in reflecting on where you are now, what matters most, and where you want to go. Take time with each one. Write down your answers. Be honest with yourself, because that’s where clarity begins.
The 5 Questions:
- What do I truly want, beyond what others expect of me?
Reflect on what’s yours versus what belongs to someone else’s expectations. - What would I choose if fear wasn’t a factor?
Imagine a world where fear couldn’t influence your decisions. - What values matter most to me in this decision?
Your values are your compass. When choices align with them, life feels lighter. - What’s one small step I can take right now?
Progress doesn’t come from waiting for the “perfect time.” It starts with a single step. - If I look back a year from now, what choice would I be proud I made?
Fast-forward and let your future self guide your present.
Take a deep breath as you answer these. Remember: acceptance isn’t about judgment, it’s about awareness. Once you see your reality clearly, you’ll be ready to move into discovery.
Section 2: Discover Your Strengths, Values, and Vision
Once you’ve accepted where you are today, the next step is to discover what lies within you. Discovery is about uncovering your unique strengths, clarifying your values, and envisioning a future that excites you.
Too often, people chase goals that don’t actually belong to them, careers chosen for stability, paths pursued out of obligation, or dreams inherited from someone else. Discovery is about pausing long enough to ask: “What do I really want?”
When you discover your strengths, you find the tools you already carry. When you discover your values, you uncover the compass that will guide your decisions. And when you discover your vision, you begin to see the bigger picture of who you’re becoming.
But discovery isn’t just about reflection. It’s about shifting your mindset in the moments that matter most. That’s why I’ve included a simple but powerful tool, a checklist you can use anytime self-doubt tries to take control.
The Confidence Reset Checklist
Confidence isn’t something you’re born with; it’s something you build. Think of it as a muscle, the more you use it, the stronger it gets. Whenever you feel hesitation, self-doubt, or fear creeping in, run through this quick reset:
- Adjust Your Posture – Shoulders back, chin up. The way you hold yourself shapes the way you feel.
- Rewrite the Thought – Replace “I can’t” with “I’m learning to.” A small shift in language creates a big shift in mindset.
- Recall a Win – Think of something you’ve accomplished recently — no matter how small. Wins build momentum.
- Take One Action – Confidence grows by doing. Choose the smallest next step and take it now.
- Ask: “What’s the Best That Could Happen?” – Instead of dwelling on fear, flip the script and focus on possibility.
- Breathe with Intention – Three deep breaths to calm your nerves and reset your energy.
- Visualize Success – Picture yourself succeeding at the very thing you’re afraid of.
- Speak It Out Loud – Affirm your ability: “I am capable. I am prepared. I can handle this.”
- Seek Support – Reach out to someone who believes in you. Borrow their confidence until yours kicks in.
- End with Gratitude – Confidence grows when you notice what’s working, not just what’s missing.
A Quick Example
One of my clients came to me struggling with imposter syndrome in her new job. Every meeting, she felt like she didn’t belong. Together, we practiced this checklist. Over time, she stopped shrinking back and started speaking up. The difference wasn’t in her skills, she already had those. The difference was in her confidence.
That’s the power of discovery. It’s realizing you already have more inside you than you’ve been giving yourself credit for.
With acceptance and discovery working together, you’re now ready for the final step: empowerment. This is where clarity and confidence become bold action.
Section 3: Empower Yourself to Take Bold Action
Clarity without action is just a dream. Confidence without action fades. The real transformation happens when you take what you’ve accepted, what you’ve discovered, and turn it into movement. That’s empowerment.
Empowerment isn’t about waiting for the “perfect moment,” it’s about creating momentum right where you are. It’s about trading hesitation for courage, overthinking for action, and excuses for progress.
The truth is, you don’t need giant leaps to change your life. You need small, consistent actions that stack up over time. That’s how confidence grows, habits stick, and results last.
Habits That Build Lasting Change
Here are seven empowering habits I share with my clients. They are simple to start but powerful in their impact.
- Start Each Day with Intention
Take two minutes each morning to ask: “What’s one thing I want to move forward today?” Clarity fuels focus. - Celebrate Small Wins
Write down one thing you did well each day. Success compounds when you train your brain to see progress. - Journal Your Thoughts
Reflection on paper creates awareness. It helps you catch patterns before they control you. - Reframe Setbacks
Instead of asking, “Why did I fail?” ask, “What did I learn?” Every setback carries a lesson. - Practice Weekly Reset
Spend 10 minutes each Sunday reviewing the week: what worked, what didn’t, and what you’ll focus on next. - Limit Negative Inputs
Protect your energy. Be intentional about what you read, watch, and who you spend time with. - Anchor with Gratitude
Write down three things you’re grateful for. Gratitude grounds you, even on tough days.
A Real Shift
One client I worked with felt overwhelmed by trying to overhaul everything at once. We started with just one habit, celebrating small wins. Within a few weeks, her perspective shifted. She stopped discounting her progress and started recognizing her growth. That single habit empowered her to try bigger actions.
Empowerment isn’t about perfection, it’s about progress. Every bold action you take sends a message to yourself: “I am capable. I am moving forward. I am creating change.”
Now you’ve seen how acceptance creates awareness, discovery builds confidence, and empowerment drives action. In the next section, we’ll look at some common roadblocks you may face along the way, and how to break through them.
Section 4: Overcoming Roadblocks & Self-Sabotage
Even with the best intentions, it’s easy to get stuck. You set a goal, feel motivated, and then, hesitation creeps in. Suddenly you’re procrastinating, doubting yourself, or waiting for the “right time.” These roadblocks aren’t signs of weakness. They’re part of being human. The key isn’t avoiding them, it’s learning how to move through them.
Here are four of the most common roadblocks I see, and how you can start to shift them:
1. Procrastination
The pattern: Putting off what matters most while filling your time with distractions.
The shift: Instead of asking, “How can I finish everything?” ask, “What’s the one small action I can start now?” Momentum builds with movement, not perfection.
2. Perfectionism
The pattern: Believing things must be flawless before you can begin.
The shift: Replace “It has to be perfect” with “Done is better than perfect.” Progress happens in drafts, not in theory.
3. Fear of Failure
The pattern: Avoiding action because you’re afraid of what might go wrong.
The shift: Reframe failure as feedback. Every attempt teaches you something valuable. The only true failure is never trying.
4. Self-Doubt
The pattern: Questioning your worth, ability, or readiness.
The shift: Anchor yourself in evidence. Write down five past wins, big or small. Confidence grows when you remind yourself of what you’ve already overcome.
A Coaching Perspective
I often remind my clients that roadblocks aren’t walls, they’re speed bumps. They slow you down, but they don’t have to stop you. Coaching helps you recognize these patterns sooner, reframe them faster, and take action despite them.
When you learn to move through these obstacles, you stop sabotaging yourself and start building resilience. The journey to growth isn’t about avoiding challenges, it’s about learning how to rise above them.
Section 5: The ADE Coaching Approach
When I started ADE Coaching, I wanted it to be more than just another coaching practice. I wanted it to be a place where people felt seen, supported, and empowered to take real steps forward in their lives. Coaching isn’t about me telling you what to do, it’s about helping you uncover your own answers, guiding you through challenges, and holding you accountable to the goals you set.
The framework we follow at ADE Coaching is simple but powerful: Accept. Discover. Empower.
- Accept where you are today.
We begin by understanding your current situation with honesty and compassion. No judgment, just awareness. - Discover your strengths, values, and vision.
Together, we explore what really matters to you, identify what’s been holding you back, and uncover your unique path forward. - Empower yourself to take bold action.
This is where change happens, building confidence, creating habits, and making progress you can see and feel.
What to Expect in a Session
- A safe, confidential space where you can speak openly.
- Thought-provoking questions that challenge you to reflect in new ways.
- Practical tools and strategies you can use right away.
- Supportive accountability to keep you moving toward your goals.
Sessions typically last about an hour and can be held virtually or in person (for Phoenix-area clients). Some clients work with me for just a few sessions to tackle a specific challenge, while others choose ongoing coaching for deeper transformation.
Our Values at ADE Coaching
- Compassionate but Direct – I’ll always support you, but I’ll also challenge you when you need it.
- Action-Oriented – Insights are valuable, but change happens when you act.
- Confidential & Safe – What you share stays between us. Always.
- Client-First – Every coaching journey is unique. We go at your pace, your goals, your vision.
Coaching with ADE isn’t about giving you a quick fix. It’s about helping you build the mindset, habits, and confidence to create lasting change. My role is to walk alongside you, sometimes as a guide, sometimes as a mirror, and sometimes as the push you need to step into the life you want.
Section 6: Client Success Snapshots
Snapshot 1: Accepting Change, Gaining Clarity
“When I first started coaching with John, I felt lost in my career. I was in a role that looked successful on the outside but felt empty on the inside. Through our sessions, John helped me accept where I was without shame, and that acceptance gave me the courage to explore what I actually wanted. Within three months, I had a clear plan for a career transition, and for the first time in years, I feel excited about the future.”
Snapshot 2: Discovering Confidence in Everyday Life
“I came to ADE Coaching struggling with self-doubt. I was constantly second-guessing myself, at work, in relationships, everywhere. John’s approach was supportive but honest. He guided me through the confidence reset tools and encouraged me to see my strengths. Today, I’m speaking up in meetings, setting boundaries in my personal life, and carrying myself with a confidence I didn’t know I had.”
Snapshot 3: Empowered to Take Bold Action
“For years, I told myself I’d start my own business ‘someday.’ But fear and perfectionism always stopped me. Working with John helped me reframe those roadblocks and break the big dream into small, doable steps. With his support and accountability, I officially launched my business this year. I’m no longer waiting for the ‘perfect moment,’ I’m creating it.”
These short but powerful stories highlight the Accept → Discover → Empower framework in action. They also make prospective clients think: “If they could do it, maybe I can too.”
